Buddha Hands

Buddha Hands

Also known as Buddha mudras, refer to the various hand gestures or positions that are commonly depicted in Buddhist art. Each mudra holds a specific symbolic meaning. Some common Buddha hand gestures include:
  • Dhyana Mudra: Both hands rest in the lap, right hand on top of the left, with thumbs touching. This represents meditation and concentration.
  • Abhaya Mudra: The right hand is raised, palm facing outward, symbolizing fearlessness and protection.
  • Vitarka Mudra: The thumb and index finger touch to form a circle, while the other fingers extend. This gesture signifies teaching and intellectual discussion.
  • Bhumisparsha Mudra: The right hand touches the ground, with fingers pointing downward. This symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when Buddha called the Earth to witness.

🪄Karana Mudra: The hand is held up with the index finger pointing upward. It is a gesture of warding off negativity and dispelling obstacles.

These mudras convey different aspects of Buddha’s teachings and experiences, adding depth and symbolism to Buddhist art and iconography.
